Dynamic response for mobile and high-intensity fishing

The passive deterrents of the STM Products Orange Line are designed for high-mobility, high-intensity operations: purse seine nets, trawl nets, longlines and short nets in areas with frequent cetacean presence. Unlike the Yellow Line, calibrated for stable environments, the Orange Line operates at high and ultra-high activation frequency, built to match the fast-paced dynamics of mobile fishing, where dolphin interactions are more frequent and protection must engage from the very first moments of deployment.

Once in water, devices activate automatically. Randomised ultrasonic emissions, with output up to 165 dB across the 5–500 kHz range, interfere with cetaceans’ echolocation systems, prompting them to move away without causing harm to either the animals or the target fish species. The build is engineered to withstand the mechanical stress typical of mobile fishing, where nets and gear are subject to continuous strain during manoeuvres.

MAIN TECHNICAL FEATURES

Orange Line pingers share the same technological core as the entire STM Products range: 32-bit microprocessor, automatic activation on immersion and continuous randomisation of ultrasound parameters to prevent long-term dolphin habituation. The watertight housing and internal NiMH batteries, rechargeable for up to 1,000 cycles, make them suited for intensive use at sea, with operating depths up to 400 m and a horizontal coverage radius of 250 m per device. Recommended spacing between devices: 500 m.

DDD 04H

For mobile nets, purse seine, trawl and longlines

The DDD 04H is the reference model of the Orange Line for medium and high-intensity fishing. It is suited to short fixed or drift nets, purse seine nets, trawl nets and longlines: the gear types where dolphin interaction is most frequent and where protection must be active from the first metres of deployment. Units are installed along the net at a constant 500 m spacing to ensure uniform coverage.

DDD 04HK

Dedicated orca deterrent

The DDD 04HK is developed to protect fishing gear from orca predation, cetaceans with acoustic characteristics significantly different from dolphins. Emissions are optimised to interfere with the echolocation system of Orcinus orca, making this a specialised solution for operators working in areas where killer whales regularly interact with fishing equipment.

DDD 04U

For squid fishing

The DDD 04U is dedicated to squid fishing, a specific context in which cetacean interactions can be particularly intense. The emission profile is calibrated for this type of operation, balancing deterrent effectiveness with the typical working conditions of squid fishing: often carried out at night and using capture methods that differ significantly from conventional net fishing.
